The Municipal Government of Dalaguete held its 2nd Exploratory Meeting with the Cebu Normal University (CNU) Administration on June 11, 2024 at the Sangguniang Bayan (SB) Session Hall, Municipal Town Hall.
Spearheaded by Mayor Ronald Allan G. Cesante, CPA, SB Councilors, LGU Department Heads and Secondary School Heads (Dalaguete I and II), met with CNU Officer-In-Charge (OIC) Campus Director of CNU-Balamban, External Affairs and Partnerships, Dr. Joseph Sol T. Galleon; Director, Legal Unit | Dean, College of Law, Public Governance and Safety, Atty. Lury Ed Marie V. Yray, and Director of Cebu Heritage Museum, Prof. Gerome L. Lasala, for a strategic alliance to provide to Southern Cebu Municipalities and their residents, access to quality and affordable higher education.
The Terms and Conditions of the Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) were discussed thoroughly between the Municipal Government of Dalaguete and CNU Administrators to ensure certain requirements are met for the desired establishment of the institution.
Mayor Cesante enthusiastically conveyed the desire of Dalaguetnons to have CNU established within their municipality, emphasizing his commitment to realizing this aspiration for his community. “Build and they will come”, Mayor Cesante said, as he believes and hopes for his beloved municipality to open its doors to all students, including from neighboring municipalities who will be soon enrolling.
This vision is also shared by Dr. Galleon, reiterating that CNU believes in inclusive education meaning open to all takers regardless of residence as long as they are qualified.
The significance of establishing CNU in Dalaguete will cater to the educational needs of Dalaguetnons and constituents of neighboring towns and provinces. This volume of diverse learners will not only enrich the academic atmosphere but will also propel the town’s economic growth, creating an increased demand for services like accommodation, food, transportation and more. In consequence, this will create more jobs and stimulate local businesses – one step closer towards achieving a “Dalaguete
Rising”.
