Celebrating culture, history, and gastronomy, the Municipality of Dalaguete was one of the technical tour destinations of the first United Nations (UN) Tourism Regional Forum on Gastronomy Tourism for Asia and the Pacific on June 27, 2024, at the Dalaguete Plaza, San Guillermo Church, and Museo del Ermitaño – Dalaguete Parish Tourism.

As the host destination, the Department of Tourism Central Visayas, in coordination with the Provincial Government of Cebu and the Municipality of Dalaguete, together with other neighboring municipalities of Oslob, Samboan, and Santander, greeted the delegates to a tasty welcome with their local and Filipino delicacies.

Appetizing delicacies like Dalaguete’s famous banana meat (fried bananas stuffed with sautéed ground pork), puso sa saging (banana heart/blossom), inun-unan nga tamala (small octopus cooked in vinegar), sinugbang isda ug pusit (grilled fish and squid), kalderetang kanding (goat stew), utan bisaya (boiled vegetables’ soup), pilapil rice, kinilaw na guso ug lato (seaweed salad), kinilaw na isdang tanigue (tangigue), bibingkang pinalutaw, Ma’am Procee’s torta, tostado and podrida, budbud (elongated rice cake), tostado de Santander and biscocho, bao-bao and podrida of Oslob, cookies de Samboan, and halo-halo (Filipino shaved ice dessert) were some of the highlights of the event.

According to Sugbo News live coverage, Ali said, one of the delegates from Bicol, “Sobrang ang sarap ng pagkain. Lami gyud!” (The food is very good. It’s really delicious.). In addition, Christina said, one of the delegates from Papua New Guinea, “My best experience in the Philippines.”

Aside from the gastronomic experience, delegates were serenaded by the Dalaguete Musical Foundation Band and talented Cebuano singers, namely: Dave Amaba Nomo, Singing Idol 2024 from the Municipality of Dalaguete, Jazzy Grace Rivera, Tawag ng Tangahalan Performer from the Municipality of Oslob, Rahm Sheilford Carpio, and Theo Omaña from the Municipality of Santander. Also, the Dalaguete Core Group gracefully performed the Utanon Festival Dance.

Therefore, Dalaguetenons are looking forward to seeing people from all over the Philippines and the whole world visit their rich culture, history, tourist spots, and local delicacies.
