Another landslide occurred in Sitio Lapa, Barangay Mantalongon, Dalaguete, Friday evening, November 23, 2018. Huge boulders of loosened rocks fell off the side of the widened Mantalongon-Lugsangan road blocking the passage of these two barangays.

“I think due to errors in widening of the road just cutting it without benching the sides. A larger slide would still be upcoming, and we’re praying it will not cost lives. We’re asking DPWH, if the project to the tune of PHP 25M has been turned over to them. As it has not been endorsed to LGU for acceptance. So that LGU can use its Engineering and Equipment to correct the engineering error,” Mayor Cesante expressed.

Recently, last November 22, a landslide also occurred in the same area blocking the road temporarily and with the assessment of our LDRRM Officer, Mr. Junery Tenefrancia, the area is not stable and rocks are dropping.

UPDATE: Nov. 25, 2018. Mayor Ronnie Cesante instructed the clearing operations, since DPWH and the Contractor QM Builders did not made any action. So even on a Sunday, together with Engrs. Essandre Ambrad & Donald Lara, they personally led the operations. Only half of the lane was OPENED to allow light vehicles and motorcycles to pass.

According to our engineers and Bgry. Officials, the constant landslides in the area were probably caused by engineering lapses or just that DPWH Officials in the district and contractor doesn’t care.

To some stranded drivers and passengers when interviewed, they opined “Dako man ang budget ani na project, ngano gamay ra nahuman? Unya wala tarunga. Unya ra if naa madisgrasya tarongon! Mas maayo ma imbestigahan.”
