“An investment in knowledge pays the best interest.” –Benjamin Franklin

This quote holds true to the recently conducted Municipal Career Day 2018 last Dec. 6, for the coastal school and 7 at the mid-land and upper schools in Dalaguete. The municipal mayor himself, Mayor Ronald Allan G. Cesante, CPA, who teamed-up with Mr. William F. Flannery, MS, Psy and is the director of STAR Center Dalaguete, initiated the activity for the senior high school students who are out-going for college next year with the theme, “Aiming For Higher Grounds Through Education”. This has been the 4th Career Day successfully initiated by the MGD to show support the importance of education to the Dalaguetnon Youth. In line with the Republic Act No. 10931, an act promoting universal access to quality tertiary education by providing free tuition and other school fees in state universities and colleges and state-run technical-vocational institutions, establishing the tertiary education subsidy and student loan program, strengthening the unified student financial assistance system for tertiary education, and appropriating funds there for, the MGD invited universities and colleges as far as Bohol and Dumaguete. Approximately twenty-eight (28) schools from different college and university adhered and responded to the call of service in educating the Dalaguetnon youth and with the help of the energetic STAR Center and OM staff everything was laid out as victorious.

The first day was held at the Dalaguete Sports and Cultural Complex with almost 300 senior high school students from the schools located at the coastal area that includes; Dalaguete, Cawayan and Casay National High School. Two private schools also participated, St. Mary’s Academy of Dalaguete and the University of the Visayas satellite school of Dalaguete that started at 1pm. The activity focused on the preparation of the senior high school students in their up-coming choice of schools in college or university. Its purpose is to encourage them that they will always have a place if they will and want to go to the tertiary level or choosing to go to the tertiary level is always possible. Moreover, it is to assure them that the municipality is supportive in their endeavor to aim for higher education level. The mayor dropped by at the venue with Kons. Royce Nikko Cesante and casually talking to the flock of students (who were hopping in different school booths) reminding them to choose wisely and giving priorities of going to school while they can and as long as there are a lot of universities that offer scholarships and support for students who are willing to aim higher in life. He also extended his gratitude to the participating universities.

The second day was scheduled for the schools at the mid and up-land area which includes the schools from Mantalongon, Dumalan, Manlapay, Caliongan and Caliriohan held at San Isidro Covered Court that also started at 1pm with almost 200 senior high school students in attendance. The municipal administrator, Mr. Rydal B. Cisneros, LIB, supervised the event and represented the mayor for the mayor has prior engagements. Sir Rydal encouraged the students to know their calling, listen to their hearts and to be hardworking because it always pays off at the end.

The following schools were present and were given certificate of recognition in their valuable time in making the activity a success. These schools represented a wide range of careers both from the Humanities, Arts, Math and Sciences.
