One festive gathering of empowered women transpired in the morning of the 29th of March at the Dalaguete Sports and Cultural Center as the municipality of Dalaguete concludes its celebration of National Women’s Month, successfully assembling a female-dominant crowd of five hundred in approximation.
The event kickstarted with a Zumba session organized by the municipal health office, followed by song and dance presentations from six selected women’s groups all over the municipality. On a more serious note, an informative lecture regarding anti-trafficking and cyber pornography was presented by this year’s guest speaker, Atty. Joan Dymphna Saniel-Amit, executive director of Children’s Legal Bureau, Incorporated.
Other highlights of the celebration include showcasing of products from twenty-two established women’s association in the municipality where participants at the celebration were each provided upon registration with meal stubs as special currency and welcomed to roam around the area to maximize and enjoy both gastronomic and retail experience with locally-produced specialties and products.
Municipal Social and Welfare Department head Evelyn Sarmago expressed her appreciation especially to Dalaguete women when she announced the municipality’s victory in bagging third place at the recently concluded Bugasan sa Kababayehan competition organized by the Cebu Provincial office. She is hopeful that women would continue to be more empowered, dynamic and grow ever strong in sync with the advancement of the municipality as we make change work not only for women, but also for each and every Dalaguetnon.
