The Dalaguete Health Management Office, in coordination with the Philippine Red Cross - Cebu Chapter and local government unit, conducts a highly successful blood-letting activity at the second floor of the Dalaguete Health Management Complex on June 30, 2016. The activity garnered a total of ninety eight (98) participants; seventy six (76) of which are successful whole blood donors. The event was cut short due to the shortage of available blood bags, overwhelming the health team of the huge support coming from the community, where a significant portion of participants were generated from the University of the Visayas (UV) – Dalaguete.
The event would not have been possible if not for the prompt response of the Philippine Red Cross - Cebu Chapter team of medical technologists and nurse volunteers headed by Dr. Amour Cielo A. Cantillas and community empowerment from Anthony Zhiene “Tata” Zambrano, barangay councilor of Poblacion and medical technologist by profession, and Anzel Joan Vergaño-Almagro, school nurse of the University of the Visayas (UV) – Dalaguete.
The team is hopeful for another blood-letting activity in October this year and again encourages every eligible Dalaguetnon to participate in it to cope up with the blood shortage and sustain immediate availability of blood in the event of medical emergencies especially in the municipality.
