Swim, bike, run... Dalaguete reclamation area was flocked with triathletes, their mentors, coaches, friends, families and onlookers as the Municipality of Dalaguete in partnership with Sports Adventure Travel Services and SugbuTriathlon held the 3rd Leg of this year’s TRI Team Championship Series, a culmination of the championship series, last February 7, 2015.
Three categories: standard distance, sprint distance, kiddie tri, were being participated in by a total of 161 triathletes with ages ranging from 5 to 57 years old, 128 male and 33 female. Fifteen were kids, the youngest being 5 and the oldest 14.
For the safety and security of the triathletes and the greater public, 50 Sugbutriathlon Marshalls along with local Police Officers, 7 PNP Regional Public Safety Batallion officers, 21 Barangay Police (tanods), 7 Communicators, and 55 University of the Visayas Cadets were dispatched to man the race routes. 11 Dalaguete Coastal Police also stationed along swimming route. Two mobile teams of Paramedics were ready to respond if ever needed.
From the previous Triathlons held, MGD Triathlon Working Committee headed by Mr Almar Villahermosa has learned how to better carry out event precautionary measures for this undertaking to go on smoothly with no harmful incidents. Despite the efforts being put into the success of the event, some uncontrollable factors still surfaced but were somehow managed. The committee will review measures undertaken to better facilitate should there be a next triathlon event in Dalaguete.
