womensSpearheaded by the Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office of the Municipality of Dalaguete, women’s groups from Balud, Caliongan, Cawayan, Consolacion, Coro, Dalaguete-LGU, Lumbang, Malones, Mantalongon, Poblacion, Solong-on (in Tapon) and Tuba,  gathered together as one on March 28, 2011 at the Dalaguete Sports and Cultural Complex to celebrate the National Women’s Month.

The affair is graced by the presence of Ms. Shirley Belleza, Cebu Provincial Office Consultant on the Women Welfare Program, who expound on this year’s theme, Magna Carta of Women, Philippine CEDAW: In Support  of the Millennium Development Goals.

Originally observed every March 8 as Women’s Day, the celebration now comes to be known as the Women's Month, in honor of all women and their contributions to society, culture, business, and politics. This year’s celebration is anchored on the importance of Republic Act 9710 or the Magna Carta of Women, signed into law on August 14, 2009 by then President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, in line with the UN Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women or the CEDAW, to the achievement of the Eight (8) Millennium Development Goals, namely:

Goal 1: Eradicate extreme poverty and hunger
Goal 2: Achieve universal primary education
Goal 3: Promote gender equality and empower women
Goal 4: Reduce child mortality
Goal 5: Improve maternal health
Goal 6: Combat HIV and AIDS, malaria and other diseases
Goal 7: Ensure environmental sustainability
Goal 8: Develop a global partnership for development
