Majid Alza of Poblacion, Dalaguete, Cebu was our representative, as being the Utanon Festival Queen of Dalaguete 2011, in the search for the first Southeast Festival Queen 2011 held at Alcoy, Cebu last Friday evening, August 26, 2011. This was one of the highlights of the 131st Alcoy Annual Town Fiesta in honor of their Patron Saint Sta. Rosa de Lima.
The search was participated by five festival queens of Argao’s La Torta Festival, Dalaguete’s Utanon Festival, Bolho Festival of Boljoon, Toslob Festival of Oslob, and Ginatilan’s Hinatdan Festival. La Torta Festival’s queen was the 1st Runner up while the 2nd Runner Up was Hinatdan Festival’s queen, and our very own festival queen captured the coveted top spot.
Southeast Festival Street Dancing and Ritual Showdown Presentation
The following day was the showcase of the five festivals in their Street Dancing and Ritual Showdown. Unlike Festival Queen Search, Street Dancing and Ritual Showdown were not competitions which participants still performed at their best especially. Ginatilan’s Hinatdan Festival presented first followed by Bolho Festival, Toslob Festival, and then Utanon Festival. Despite of the blackout experienced in the middle of the presentation, our Dalaguete Utanon Festival contingent continued dancing without lights and music for about a minute and 40 seconds. Argao’s La Torta Festival was not able to present due to the blackout.
