In honor of their beloved patron saint, Our Lady of Consolation (Birhen sa Consolacion), Barangay Manlapay once again celebrated annual fiesta last September 9. Bishop Julieto Cortes, Auxiliary Bishop of the Archdiocese of Cebu, was their Holy Mass celebrant.
Unofficially, Manlapay Parish is the fourth in Dalaguete after San Guillermo Parish of Poblacion, Sta. Monica Parish of Cawayan, and San Isidro Parish of Mantalongon to which Manlapay was once a member of. The parish has eight barangays under its jurisdiction. It covers the barangays of Manlapay, Maloray, Salug, and Bulak of Dalaguete; Balaas and Linut-od barangays of Argao; and Barangay Santicon and Patong of Badian town.
With their aim of officially becoming a parish and having their own church and public cemetery, landowners of the areas of proposed church and cemetery donated their lots. Signings on the Deeds of Donation were made after the mass administered by Rydal B. Cisneros, Municipal Administrator of LGU-Dalaguete, and witnessed by Board Member Willy Caminero, Vice Mayor Jeffrey B. Belciña, and SB Members Kevin V. Belandres and John B. Moran.
Rev. Fr. Froilan Bejoc, parish priest of Manlapay, and Manlapay Brgy. Captain Veronico Cartesiano are knocking on the generous hearts of their parishioners and fellow devotees of Our Lady of Consolation to ask for donations for the construction of the church and cemetery.
