dulaySolo performer Beverly Jane Dulay, with her winning piece “Dughang Guba”, captured 2nd place in the 5th Halad sa Kabataan’s Vocal Solo Competition held last October 26, 2011 at the Cebu Cultural Center, Lahug, Cebu City.

However, the two-time champion Dalaguete Music Foundation (DMF) Rondalla, under the stewardship of the new conductor Engr. Jerwin Muñoz, failed to land top posts in the Rondalla Competition.

With this year’s contest piece “Rosas Pandan” and warm-up piece “Pobreng Alindahaw”, DMF Rondalla’s performance was not enough to get the judges’ nod to earn a spot along the top 3.

Last year’s champion, The Sisters of Mary Boystown Rondalla of Minglanilla, successfully defended the previous year’s crown, followed by second placer Argao Rondalla and the third place winner, Danao City Central School Rondalla.  The top three awardees bested Dalaguete and other competitors coming from Samboan, Talisay City, Alegria, Mandaue City, Oslob, and Borbon.

In the Vocal Solo Competition, Ms. Dulay emerged from among 10 other finalists but fell short to close competitor, and the champion Jenelyn Tapuyao of San Fernando.  Grabbing the 3rd prize is Jomar Capuyan of Danao City.  Other competitors include solo performers from San Remegio, Carcar City, Consolacion, Mandaue City, Barili, Toledo City, Ronda, Bogo City, and Borbon.

The Halad sa Kabataan, with this year’s theme “Palig-onon ang Kaugmaon sa Batang Sugbuanon”, is a yearly clash of Cebuano youth’s musical talents that started last 2007.
