Secondary schools and 12 elementary districts among the nine municipalities, from Minglanilla to Santander, of the southeastern part of Cebu, participated in the secondary and elementary levels of the 2011 Southeast Area Level English Festival held last December 5, 2011, at the Dalaguete National High School (DNHS) and Dalaguete Central Elementary School, respectively.
In the secondary level, DNHS topped the “Spelling Bee” and placed second in the “Essay Writing Contest”, while Mantalongon National High School finished third spot in the “Oratorical Contest”.
Dalaguete districts I and II, in the elementary level, grabbed a total of five top three places. District I finished at first place in “Read-A-Thon Comprehension for Grade V” and second place in “Read-A-Thon Comprehension for Grade IV”. District II bagged first spot in “Read-A-Thon Comprehension for Grade III”, second in “Read-A-Thon Comprehension” for Grade II”, and third place in “Read-A-Thon Comprehension for Grade IV”.
Top two contest winners in elementary level and top three winners in secondary level from four different areas (southeast, southwest, northeast, northwest) of Cebu Province qualify for the division level of the festival to be held this coming Wednesday, December 14, 2011 at Liloan, Cebu.
The 2011 English Festival, with the theme: “Embracing the Yule Season with English”, is held to provide students with avenues on honing their oral and written communication skills, and in reverence of the Yuletide season.
