To conclude Dalaguete’s Tri-Centennial Celebration and the Holy Year, a time capsule was covered up last December 31, 2011 at the entrance of Kristo Rey Monument, led by no other than Archbishop Jose S. Palma of the Archdiocese of Cebu.
The burying was done at 9:30 AM witnessed by Mayor Ronald Allan Cesante, Parish Pastoral Council, Heritage Commission, Catholic Lay Ministers, and Parishioners. A Holy Mass followed at 10:00 AM with Archbishop Palma as main celebrant.
The time capsule will be opened after 100 years. It contains some items or information intended as a method of communication with future Dalaguetnons and to help archaeologists, anthropologists, or historians. It includes the “300 Yrs of Grace and Pride” book, latest and some past souvenir programs, and activities’ pictures of Dalaguete’s mandated organizations, movements, devotions, and other organizations. It also includes “300 yrs” souvenir t-shirts, signed Manifesto, CD copy of Tri-Centennial activities, Tri-Centennial Commemorative Coin, and others.
The replica of the items will be properly turned over from one priest to another until the time the capsule will be opened.
To preserve the items of around seven kilos, they were properly covered in a plastic case, then enclosed in a metal case, and finally in a wooden case.
A lunch with Archbishop Palma was then held at the Dalaguete Sports Complex after the mass.
