Some 16 women’s group of the town took part in this year’s Women’s Month Celebration through mangrove planting and coastal clean-up last Saturday, March 24, 2012, at the shores of barangays Balud and Poblacion.
With the theme: “Woman Weathering Climate Change: Governance and Accountability, Everyone’s Responsibility”, women’s organizations of Dalaguete showed some good examples of how to battle evolving climate change. Early Saturday morning, a few hundreds of women assembled at the basketball court of Barangay Balud and minutes later, proceeded to their respective assigned areas.
Women’s groups of the Municipal Government of Dalaguete and barangays of Balud, Obong, Consolacion, and Poblacion went on to plant mangrove seedlings situated at few meters away from the assembly area and is part of the Balud-Consolacion Marine Protected Area.
Coastal areas from Balud to Guiwanon were cleaned-up by the women’s organizations of Lumbang, Tuba, Mantalongon, Catolohan, and Caliongan while groups from Solong-on/Tapon, Coro, Cawayan, Casay 1, Casay 2, and Malones were set on cleaning up the coast from Guiwanon to Sta. Cruz area of Poblacion.
