In a simple yet meaningful ceremony, Mayor Ronald Allan G. Cesante administered the oath of office of the 18 elected Barangay Captains and the Councillors from the 33 barangays of the Municipality of Dalaguete. The activity which took place last November 29, 2013 at the Dalaguete Cultural and Sports Complex started with a Thanksgiving Mass officiated by Rev. Fr. Bernard D. Oyao.
The newly elected barangay officials were ushered inside the Complex bedecked by the traditional colors of red, white and blue. Vice Mayor Jeffrey B. Belciña welcomed all the officials together with family members and guests who came to witness the momentous event. In his welcome address, Vice Mayor Belciña challenged the newly elected and re-elected officials to remain true to the promises in the oath they would swear to.
Mayor Cesante, in his message, stressed that winning the people’s trust should not push barangay officials to keep on promising for more projects. According to him, an elected official’s success does not hinge alone on how many projects he makes. The simple act of cleaning in the barangay by the officials which sets example among the constituents is far better, the good Mayor added. The people’s behavior should be governed by choice based on values rather than by condition which is based on emotion. Infrastructure projects are associated with people being happy because of their condition, and this feeling is fleeting.
Mayor Cesante also emphasized in his message the importance of education, agriculture and health being the flagship programs of his administration. He did not, however, discount that the other basic services were as important as the three. The short affair concluded with a buffet lunch which the Office of the Sangguniang Bayan planned for the event.
