33 graduates led by the lone honor student Cristine Amarila marched with pride last Saturday, March 31, 2012 at the Dalaguete Sports and Cultural Complex during the University of the Visayas – Dalaguete’s 2nd Commencement Exercises.
Municipal scholar Ms. Amarila, graduating with a degree in Bachelor of Science in Business Administration – Major in Human Resource Development and Management, was awarded cum laude. Dr. Josefino A. Ronquillo, Regional Education Supervisor II of the Commission on Higher Education (CHED), was the guest speaker of the commencement exercises.
Of the 33 graduates, nine of these were from the Bachelor in Elementary Education (BEED) course, nine from BS in Business Administration (BSBA), six from BS in Hotel and Restaurant Management (BSHRM), another 6 from BS in Information Technology (BSIT), two from Bachelor in Secondary Education – Major in Mathematics (BSED MATH), and one from Bachelor of Arts – Political Science (AB-POL SCI).
Amarila was one of the four municipal college scholars who graduated this year and among over 90 college and high school scholars for the school year 2011-2012. Last year, the Municipal Government of Dalaguete had added five new college scholars and 20 new high school scholars. This is in line with MGD’s commitment to give opportunities to those intelligent but underprivileged students to continue their studies despite their financial constraints.
Municipal and barangay roads throughout Dalaguete had been long criticized for their unpleasant conditions but Municipal Mayor Ronald Allan G. Cesante, through the Municipal Scholarship Program, had rather prioritized on appropriating greater budget on education compared to these infrastructure developments as he believed that all these pleasant roads will go unpleasant given the wear and tear condition while education given to those intelligent but deprived individuals who came mostly from upland areas will be the major weapon for these students to become Dalaguete’s future successful professionals here and abroad and future leaders of our town.
