In its effort to revive and strengthen Dalaguete’s organization of disabled persons, Association of Persons with Disability of Dalaguete (APWDD), the municipal government assisted its officers in holding the General Assembly Meeting last April 19, 2012 at the San Guillermo Parish Social Hall.
42 of the total 65 members attended the said meeting and elected a new set of officers that saw Mr. Jake Belciña reassuming his position as the president.
Booklets on purchases of medicines and on basic/prime commodities for discount purposes, as mandated in the Magna Carta for Disabled Persons, were distributed to APWDD members.
Municipal Administrator Rydal Cisneros, on behalf of Mayor Ronald Allan Cesante, gave an inspirational message that was followed with the information on the updates of the Magna Carta for Disabled Persons provided by the Municipal Social Welfare and Development Officer, Mrs. Evelyn Sarmago.
Encouraging the participants to attend livelihood-related trainings, a short talk about her experience was delivered by Ms. Luisa Carungay, a PWD (person with disability) who with the Municipal Government of Dalaguete’s help, joined a massage therapy training at Area Vocational Rehabilitation Center (AVRC) and is currently working at Helping Hands Organization in Cebu City.
Mrs. Gena Buenconsejo facilitated the discussion and voting of the amendments of APWDD’s constitution and by-laws. Prior to the election of officers, Mrs. Buenconsejo provided the members with information on MGD’s services and programs which they or their family members could avail of.
