Long regarded as the Vegetable Basket in the Cebu Province, Agriculture Secretary Proceso J. Alcala visited Dalaguete on August 15, 2012, as part of his two day (August 14& 15, 2012) visit in Cebu. Other towns visited were the City of Carcar and the municipalities of Carmen, Consolacion and Argao.
The Municipal and Barangay Officials, and the people of Dalaguete shows warm welcome to Secretary Proceso J. Alcala and his party at SitioZigsag, Barangay Obo (first stop-over) were the Agricultural Tramline “a postharvest facility connecting Poo-Langkas and Zigsag-Obo” is constructed. Actual operation of the Tramline was observed and the Secretary promised to have an additional one (1) unit Agricultural Tramline to service the area of fifty hectares (New-land for Agribusiness). After a 15- minute dropped-off, the Secretary and his party proceed to Barangay Mantalongon “The Summer Capital of Cebu” this municipality.Long regarded as the Vegetable Basket in the Cebu Province, Agriculture Secretary Proceso J. Mantalongon Barangay Officials, farmers, High School students with the band and the people in upland barangays were witness of the Secretary and his party visit at SICC. After a short speech Sec. Alcala and party observed the Mantalongon Vegetable Trading Center, a structure constructed through a joint undertaking of the Department of Agriculture and the Municipal Government of Dalaguete. Actual marketing and packaging of farm products is being observed. Farmers and collectors were also interviewed by the Secretary.
On the other hand, the Municipal Government of Dalaguete through Municipal Agriculture and Natural Resources Office (MANRO), Mantalongon Barangay Council headed by Hon. HilarionBelciña and the Cebu-Negros Integrated Upland Vegetable Development Council (CNORIUVDC) headed by Florida Ybañez, President, conducted a Dalaguete Upland Farmer’s Conference that started in the morning of August 15, 2012 at San Isidro Community Center (SICC), with a main topics of Executive Order No. 481 and Republic Act 10068. This conference aims to promote the growing of safe and quality vegetables, create general awareness on the essence and concepts of organic agriculture.
As part of the conference, Mayor Ronald Allan G. Cesante, CPA and Director Angel Enriquez delivered a message and an introduction ofSecretary Proceso J. Alcala. About 500individuals, composed ofMunicipal and Barangay Officials, farmers and high school students witnessed the delivery of inspirational message of Secretary Proceso J. Alcala. Farmers were given a chance to air their concerns and thegood Secretary urged support to agriculture in Dalaguete, as follows:
- One unit additional Agricultural Tramline
- Enhancement and replacement of Agricultural Tramline bucket (postharvest facility connecting Poo-Langkas and Zigsag-Obo)
- Assistance for the establishment of Agricultural School in Mantalongon
- 5 slots on scholarship program on Agriculture Course
- Enhancement of existing Mantalongon Vegetable Trading Center
- 20 bags of Hybrid Rice Seeds for Barangay Salug
- Prizes for the Raffles
10 winners for the 100 meters HD PE Pipe
25 winners for the Knapsack Sprayer
10 winners for the Plastic Drums
5 winners for the Carabao with farm implements
