SSS “AlkanSSSya” Program Launched in Dalaguete
“AlkanSSSya” of Social Security System (SSS) is a micro-savings program that offers convenient remittance for the self-employed and informal sector workers who could drop as little as PhP10.00 per day to designated coin slots of the secure metal cabinet called the “alkanSSSya.” The individual savings inside the coin slots will be counted at the end of every month and credited to each member’s personal SSS accounts.
Realizing that the program could benefit a lot of Dalaguetnons who are engaged in farming, fishing and micro-enterprises, Mayor Ronald Allan Cesante has advocated not only for the implementation of the program but also for the establishment of SSS office in the municipality. A series of meetings were held between the Municipal Government of Dalaguete (MGD) and SSS Executives for the realization of this undertaking.
The first in Cebu, “AlkanSSSya” program was officially launched in Dalaguete on June 7, 2013 at the Dalaguete Sports and Cultural Center. Participated by the officers and members of various people’s organizations (POs), the highlights of this momentous event included the Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) Signing and the Ceremonial Turn-over of AlkanSSSya Keys. Led by SSS Assistant Vice President (AVP) Central Visayas Division, Ms. Helen Solito, SSS Toledo Branch Manager, Mr. Eric Coronado and the Chairman of AlkanSSSya Program, Mr. Arnold Tolentino, top Executives from SSS were in town to support the launching of this program.
Present during the event were the informal sector workers who joined the AlkanSSSya program. These are the officers and members of North Dalaguete Tricycle Operators & Drivers Association (NORDATODA), Dalaguete Tricycle Operators & Drivers Multi-Purpose Cooperative (DATODRIMC), Dalaguete Tricycle Operators Association Incorporated (DATOAI) and Balud Women’s Association (BWA). Also in attendance were PO members who are also interested to join the program. These POs include Poblacion Women’s Association (PWA), Barangay Poblacion Fisherfolks Association (BAFPA), Consolacion Women’s Association (CWA) and Agustinian Women’s Rural Improvement Club (AWRIC).
The respective presidents of NORDATODA, DATODRIMC, DATOAI and BWA signed the MOA between SSS and their organizations and delivered their Messages of Commitment. Likewise, they received the AlkanSSSya keys during the ceremonial turn-over of keys. The members were having fun looking for their names at the individual coin slots during the event’s culminating activity which was the dropping of PhP10.00 coins as the start of the members’ remittance for their SSS contributions. It was indeed a fruitful day for everyone who also had the chance to mingle and interact not only with SSS and local officials but also with members of other POs.
Bringing the AlkanSSSya program and the SSS office closer to the people, Mayor Cesante is hoping that more and more Dalaguetnons especially the self-employed and those who come from the informal sectors will become SSS members to ensure the protection of these workers and their families from loss of income brought about by death, disability or retirement.
