The Municipality of Dalaguete is now connected to the National Govenment's automated weather monitoring system, thanks to the installation of an Automatic Rain Gauge (ARG) / Water Level Monitoring System (WLMS) equipment on Friday, July 5, 2013, at the Mantalongon Demo Farm Compound in Sitio Alang-Alang.
The newly-installed ARG/WLMS will be among the 600 automated rain gauges and 400 water level monitoring stations (WLMS) which will be installed by DOST until December 2013 to provide a better picture of the country’s surface water in relation to flooding.
Aptly dubbed as Project NOAH (National Operational Assessment of Hazards) as an allusion to the biblical patriarch who led his people to get ready and ultimately survive the Great Flood, the project is in response to the need for a more accurate, integrated, and responsive disaster prevention and mitigation system, especially in high-risk areas throughout the Philippines.
Earlier, the Municipal Government of Dalaguete led by Mayor Ronald Allan Cesante and the Department of Science and Technology Region 7 represented by Assistant Regional Director for Technical Operations Mr. Edilberto Paradela, signed a Memorandum of Agreement on the installation, operation, and maintenance of above-said equipment.
